Workshop on “Audit and Security of Linux and Unix Systems”

More and more companies and individuals are using Unix/Linux as the operating platform. In the past, Unix platform was particularly deployed for supporting critical applications. From that time onwards, IT security control has already been incorporated into the design of the platform. Many security modules (both commercial and free versions) have been developed and can be added to the platform easily. However, many of these controls are developed in a less user-friendly mode. Thus, configurations are comparatively more complex than with Microsoft Windows.

The objective of this course is to start the IT Security Audit of Unix/Linux Systems from system aspects. Participants will learn security mechanisms and hardening scheme of Linux platform as well as the security auditing practices. This enables the participants to plan or even perform self-audit using publicly available tools and checklists especially for Unix/Linux server environment.
