Security Knowledge
for Everyone.

Hong Kong's independent information security organisation. We make cybersecurity understandable, accessible, and actionable — especially in the age of AI.

Our Mission

In a world where AI can phish, spoof, and exploit at machine speed, Hong Kong needs security knowledge that goes beyond the specialist — into every home, every business, every decision.

HKISG exists to bridge that gap: translating complex security research into practical guidance, connecting professionals across sectors, and building a more resilient digital Hong Kong — together.

What We Cover

Four Security Pillars

Our research, news coverage, and wiki are organised around four domains that define the modern security landscape.

Cybersecurity

Threat intelligence, defence operations, ransomware awareness and OT/ICS security for critical infrastructure.

AI Security & Governance

How generative AI changes the threat landscape — deepfakes, prompt injection, AI-powered phishing — and what frameworks can govern it.

Digital Identity

Passwordless authentication, eKYC, biometric security and protecting personal data in an always-connected world.

Web3 & Blockchain

Smart contract auditing, decentralised platform security and the risks hidden in emerging protocols.

For the Public

Security Essentials

Common Threats

  • Phishing — fake emails/messages that mimic real brands to steal your login details.
  • Deepfake scams — AI-generated voice or video impersonating someone you trust.
  • Ransomware — malware that locks your files and demands payment.
  • SME attacks — small/medium enterprises are the #1 target because they're the weakest link.

Quick Safety Checklist

  • Use a password manager — never reuse passwords across sites.
  • Turn on 2FA everywhere, preferably with an authenticator app (not SMS).
  • Keep your devices updated — patches fix known exploits.
  • Verify links before clicking — hover first, check the real URL.
  • If something feels off, it probably is. Don't rush.

Reporting & Help

  • HKPF Cybercrime Unit — report online fraud or hacking at police.gov.hk
  • HKCERT — Hong Kong CERT for incident response and security advisories.
  • Privacy Commissioner (PCPD) — report personal data breaches.
  • SCMC — Securities and Futures Commission for investment scams.
